These tips are not addressed to social climbing women, they already have their own methods.
1 ‑ BE SELF-CONFIDENT IN THE PERFORMANCE OF YOUR DUTIES.
The performance of your duties in a serious, responsible and professional way will increase your self-confidence and therefore your credibility within your work environment. It’s very important to offer a good and well-preserved personal image.
2 ‑ TRY TO OBTAIN THE BEST ACADEMIC EDUCATION POSSIBLE AND NEVER STOP LEARNING.
“Less is more” doesn’t apply well here. The more academically qualified you are, the better. It will help you to aspire to positions of higher level and importance. Never stop learning and work daily on getting better and better.
3 ‑ SET GOALS.
One after another, within the short term and obviously in accordance with your capabilities. Unrealistic goals will only drive you to frustration. At this point, we have to be practical and understand that the more connected you are within your network, the better the possibilities will be.
4 ‑ WITHIN A COMPANY, YOU ARE YOUR OWN COMPANY.
Put yourself first. And remember, if you aren’t capable of defending and promoting yourself, you’ll never be able to do it for your employer anyways. Companies which make you feel like an essential piece obtain greater dedication and productivity from its employees. On the contrary, if you simply feel like a replaceable number, then you choose; either you dedicate all your efforts to increasing the prosperity of the company or you use the company for your own promotion.
5 ‑ BE CAUTIOUS WITH YOUR RELATIONSHIPS WITH YOUR MALE/FEMALE COLLEAGUES.
Be smart when dealing with your colleagues and keep yourself in your own orbit and in an independent position. Don’t be engaged with any of the parties. Acting that way will allow you to make decisions with more freedom. Remember that work environments can be cruel battlefronts.
6 ‑ OBSERVE THE WORK ENVIRONMENT AND TRUST YOUR INTUITION.
Observe the work environment and try to identify your colleagues’ different personalities. Companies’ staff are diverse and have different styles. Your intuition will allow you to identify those who are convenient to keep close and the ones who you better try to keep as far away as possible.
7 ‑ IGNORE THE BAD/EASY JOKES FROM YOUR MALE COLLEAGUES.
I recommend ignoring bad/childish jokes coming from your male colleagues, even though sometimes it’s convenient to give a strong reply – always in a smart and elegant way. Unfortunately, there is no way to keep some people from sending malicious comments but do your best to not reply back with anger and keep calm, time puts everybody in the right place.
8 ‑ DEFEND YOUR OWN OPINIONS, STYLE, AND CRITERIA.
Whatever your style is, you will always have sympathizers and detractors. Keep yourself faithful to your own style, opinions, and criteria. By doing so, similar personalities will approach you with whom communication will be easier, more fluid and more constructive. Never spend more than 24 hours of your time and energy trying to convince those who do not even understand what you are talking about. Remember – it is useless talking to a brick wall.
9 ‑ NEVER BE RADICAL, LISTEN TO OTHERS AND CHOOSE THE BEST OPTION.
Never stay closed to others’ opinions. Different points of view will help with the cohesion of the group, which will help to make the most appropriate and valuable decisions for the company.
10 ‑ TRY TO ACHIEVE YOU GOALS AS A CONSEQUENCE OF YOUR OWN EFFORTS. YOU WILL NEVER REGRET IT.
Don’t accept any results except those obtained from your own efforts, by acting like that you will not mortgage the results. As from yourself, reaching your objectives will always depend on many circumstances out of your control. And remember, regardless of how far you arrive always act smart and respectful, you won’t regret it.
Even though these tips are essentially directed towards women, they can also be applied to men (except nr.7).
